2000. David Wilmot Porter was born on 22 January 1864 in Fontana, Wisconsin (Walworth). He died on 30 October 1931 at the age of 67 in Dania, Florida (Broward). He was buried on 14 November 1931 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (Walworth). David was a Fontana Park Hotel Propr.. He was 1/128 Wampanoag/Narragansett Indian from father. Attended public schools and then a private seminary in Lake Geneva. Moved to
Saint Joseph, MO in April 1895. Life member of Moila Temple, Mystic Shrine in
St. Joseph. Returned to Walworth. Moved to Dania in 1907 to run a truck farm
during the winter and spent summers in Fontana Park to captain a boat. Stayed
in Dania all year starting in 1926. Formed the Walworth Masonic lodge in 1903
and was first worshipful master. To the children of the neighborhood where he
lived he was always "Uncle Dave."

David Wilmot Porter and Clara Rhoda Taylor were married on 1 January 1889 in Fontana, Wisconsin (Walworth). Clara Rhoda Taylor, daughter of George Howard Taylor and Rhoda Maria Parker, was born on 25 December 1864 in Hawley, Massachusetts (Franklin). She died on 12 November 1953 at the age of 88 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Milwaukee). She was buried on 14 November 1953 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (Walworth). Clara was 1/128 Wampanoag/Narragansett Indian from father. Wrote "A Grandmother's Rememberances" Actually 2 versions were written; one for Helen Porter and later, one for Margaret Porter. These were not found until after the death of George Porter in 1960. At time of death, had lived in St. John's Episcopal Home in Milwaukee for 15 years.
