"a genial and kind hearted man, a gentleman in every sense of the word from his kindly courtesy to his strict integrity. He retained his faculties and activity and enjoyed life keenly." Vote Republican. There is missinformation about Doric's ancestors in several biographies of him. 1) His Great Grandfather, Nehemiah Porter, was a Presbyterian minister. Actually, Nehemiah was a Congregational minister. 2) The Porter family is of Scotch origin. Clearly, Porter is English. 3) His father's name was Asa. Of course, his father's name was really Nathan. Doric Chipman Porter and Nancy Jane Hanchett were married on 14 August 1839 in Dover Township, Ohio. Nancy Jane Hanchett was born on 10 February 1819 in Stockholm, New York (St. Lawrence).
