James is listed as having died in 1902. He is alive and well in 1940, living with his daughter's family, George Leighton. Eva Lowie Bickford was his daughter. He is listed as father-in-law, but he has gotten younger by a lot. Born 1877 as opposed to his original of 1853. 15. Eunice Verrill^{48,96,97,99,100,101,102,103,104} was born in October 1849 in prob. Turner, Maine (Androscoggin).^{4,13,41,100,105,106,107} She lived in Turner, Maine (Androscoggin) in 1850.^96,107 She lived with her parents in Danville, Maine (Androscoggin) in 1860.¹⁰⁰ Eunice lived moved in with James Bickford in Portland, Maine (Cumberland) on 23 November 1878. She lived with her husband at her brother David's home in Lebanon, Maine (York) in 1880.⁹⁶ She lived in Portland, Maine (Cumberland) in 1900.⁴⁸ Eunice lived with her son-in-law George F. Leighton in Portland, Maine (Cumberland) on 20 January 1920.¹⁶ Living with her son-in-law George Leighton. Hello again, I went to talk to our family genealogist. He has been doing this for the last 20 years. He told me that in the state archives he found the divorce for James & Eunice McGowan. James was the one who filed for the divorce. In those papers James declared that Eunice left him in the middle of the night on 11-23-1878. to take up with a man name James Bickford. He stated that they were having an affair and this is the reason that he was asking for the divorce. He all so stated that they had four children as a result of this union and name them, Cora, William, Maude, and Lester. It is also stated in the paperwork that the sheriff had been looking for Eunice for close to a year, to serve the papers. James was granted his divorce in Jan. 1881. He also told me that in 1880 census Eunice was living with her brother, along James, Maude, Lester and a baby James. I hope helps clear up any confusion that we seem to have in our family line.
