He died on 1 February 1865 at the age of 86 in Buckland, Massachusetts (Franklin). Jonathan had some big challenges. His first wife died before their first wedding aniversary. His second wife was his first wife's sister. A few months after this marriage, his father-in-law, Jasher Taylor, died and he played a role in settling a very complicated estate. And while the estate was still being settled, his first child, a son, was born. He was named Jasher Taylor Ward after Jonathan's father-in-law. Susanna bore him 11 children but died when only 44. He married two more times.
