He was buried in Cape Cod, Massachusetts (Barnstable).595 Was full-blood Wampanoag Indian. Barnstable VRS:
These present , witness that Yanno Sachem hath freely and absolutely
bargained and sold unto Thomas Hinkley, Nathaniel Bacon, & Tristram Hull
in ye behalf and for ye use of ye Town of Barnstable all that his Trach
of Land lying and being at ye South Sea within precinct of Barntable
aforesaid bounded Easterly by ye bounds of Yarmoth, Northerly by ye
lands that was bought of Nepoyetum, & Westerly to ye lands bought of
Paupmummucke excepting the Skirts of Goof Land at the head of the Cover;
bounded Northerly by ye plains from a markt tree neer about Yarmoth
Bounds at a little swamp. Running Westerly to a Little Swamp against ye
landing place & thence extending to another markt tree Westerly near
against ye entrance into ye place Commonly called ye Great Neck; thence
running southerly by ye side of two small swamps to a little pond at ye
head pf a small cove of marsh which faces Easterly to ye Creek or River
it divides ye place commonly called Sam's Neck and the other neck that
runs along by ye West side of ye Bay to ye beach; bounded Westerly by a
glade of marsh from the marsh In Sam's Neck which is fenced in; and ye
marsh to ye Eastward of ye said Neck, together with ye Skirts of upland
aforesd (excepting what he hath already given to Nicholas Davis) he
reserveth tp his own proper use, to him and his heirs forever excepting
only Liberty by him given to any of ye Inhabitants of Barnstable if
their operations[?] require to set up any warehouse or warehouses or
docks in any convenent place about ye head of ye cove with free egress &
regress thereunto all the rest if his land, both meddow and upland to be
held and possessed excepting as aforesd; by and to ye proper use of ye
said Town of Barnstable them and their heirs for ever for and in
consideration of twenty punds & two small breeches to me, in hand paid
by ye sd Tristram Hull wherewith he, the Yanno rests himself fully
satisified and paid for all ye sd lands; with warrantees against any
Indians whatsoever laying any lawful claim thereunto in witness to all &
singular ye premises above said he hath hereunto set his hand this 19
July 1664.


He was among those who came to have such dread of the English that they "forsook their wonted habitations, fled into the swamps, and lived in unhealthy places, in a state of starvation, until many died with diseases which they had thus contracted." [Drake, 78]

Iyanough died before March 1623 of a disease which swept Cape Cod early that year."

Iyanough died before March 1623 of a disease which swept Cape Cod early that year, probably brought by Thomas Weston's colonists which settled at Wessgussett in 1622. (source: Mayflower Web Pages. Caleb Johnson c 1997) Wife of Iyanough and Iyanough Sachem of the Wampanoag were married before 1595.597
