L. H. Haywood of Minot is Found Dead in the Stable at the Home of His Daughter

"MINOT CORNER, March 17 (Special). - L. H. Haywood was found dead in the stable at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Claude Frank Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock. He apparently had been shot and had been dead about two hours. The coroner and doctor were summoned. After an investigation they decided that death was due to suicide. Mr. Haywood had been the guest of his daughter the past week. He went into the shed Tuesday morning and when he did not return after a reasonable length of time, his daughter made a search for him and found him dead with a bullet thru his stomach. Mr. Haywood came to Hard Scrabble ten years ago from Thorne's Corner making his home there until five years ago when his wife died. After selling the place, he made his home with his two daughters, Mrs. Claude Frank of Minot Corner and daughter in Auburn, Mrs. William Bilodeau. Mr. Haywood had been in poor health for the past six months and was despondent. His age was 70 years. Besides his daughter he leaves three grandchildren, Eileen Leighton, Bernice Additon and Edith Frank. L. H. Haywood was a former Lewiston policeman, serving on the force about 20 years ago. he was later a Sturgis liquor deputy. Mr. Haywood has also been a motorman on the A. and K. trolley lines and served as a fireman at Penley's packing plant for sometime." He was buried after 17 March 1925 in Lane Cemetery, East Poland, Maine. He was 1/256 Wampanoag/Narragansett Indian from mother. Listed as Howard L. on the 1880 census.

She died on 8 November 1920 at the age of 64. She was buried on 8 November 1920 in Lane Cemetery, East Poland, Maine. 1880 census lists her name as VIENNA, age 23.
