2680. Rev. Arthur Samuel Hayward was born on 5 May 1862 in Cooper, Maine (Washington). Age 8 in 1870. Age 18 in 1880. He lived in Cooper, Maine (Washington) on 1 July 1870. He lived in Cooper, Maine (Washington) in 1880. Arthur lived in Cooper, Maine (Washington) on 24 June 1900. He died on 5 July 1939 at the age of 77 in Freeport, Maine (Cumberland). He was 1/256 Wampanoag/Narragansett Indian from mother. Called "Austin S." in the 1880 census when, at 18 years of age, he was living with his parents in Cooper, ME.

Samuel Arthur & his wife Jennie lived in Henry and Asuba's old homestead in Cooper until they later moved to Princeton, ME (after the 1910 census). At the time of his death in in 1939, "Arthur" was living in on Pleasant St., Freeport, Cumberland Co, ME where he'd lived for 10 years. Arthur was a minister, per Marie Harrington. According to his death certificate (info provided by second wife, Lucy Drummond Hayward), he was born 5 May 1862 in Cooper, ME to Henry Hayward, farmer, and Azubah Higgins.

According to the "Descendants of Eliza Jane (Strout) Lane" in the Alexander-Crawford (ME) Historical Society newsletter of Nov., 1995, Samuel Arthur and Jennie lived briefly in Cooper, then on West Street in Princeton, Washington Co., Maine. The information regarding their children comes from this newsletter. According to the same newsletter, Issue 92, Feb., 1997, pg. 8, Samuel Arthur had a store in Cooper by 1895 on the North Union Rd.

According to Hayward researcher Rachael Saunders, in information received from from Eunice M. Hayward Franks, Rev. Hayward married Lucy Drummond at Freeport, Cumberland Co., ME 5 July 1939. However, Maine marriage archives indicate the date shown, also meaning that the date of death of Jennie (Lane) Hayward is incorrect.

Rev. Arthur Samuel Hayward and Jennie Temperance Lane were married on 18 September 1885 in Cooper, Maine (Washington). Jennie Temperance Lane was born on 4 August 1867 in Cooper, Maine (Washington). She died in Princeton, Maine (Washington). The date of death 31 March 1929 is incorrect in light of the date of Rev. Hayward's second marriage.

Rev. Arthur Samuel Hayward and Lucy Evelyn Day were married on 2 August 1928 in Maine. Lucy Evelyn Day, daughter of Josiah Day and Maria "Mary" Bird, was born on 21 December 1871 in Wesley, Maine (Washington). Age 8 in 1880, 28 in 1900 - Dec 1871, 38 in 1910. She lived in Wesley, Maine (Washington) in 1880. She lived single, with her parents in Wesley, Maine (Washington) in 1900. Lucy lived with her widowed father, single in Wesley, Maine (Washington) in 1910. She died after 5 July 1939 at the age of 67. Of Winslow, ME at her marriage to Rev. Hayward. Name indicated as Lucy Day and Lucy Drummond in Maine marriage records (Maine State Archives marriage index, 1892-1922: <www.state.me.us/sos/arc/archives/genealog/marriage.htm>. She was likely a widow of either a Day or a Drummond and one of these her maiden surname.
